Buddy is a wonderful dog, with some very odd characteristics. We rescued him from the Humaine Society a little over a year ago. Overall, Buddy loves people, doesn't know how to interact with dogs so he gets aggressive, loves to play, loves to hunt lizards and squirrels and is very fun (and funny!).
We love him and want to figure him out to help give him the very best life possible. Below are descriptions about Buddy along with videos to help you better understand him.
Buddy's overall complex seems to be fear. He is afraid of many things, most of all water.
While walking Buddy a truck passed by and either ran over a balloon or something else and made a very lound "bang" sound. Soon as he heard the sound he bolted and tried to run away. I held him, told him it was going to be okay and he was shaking the rest of the walk.
Since the firs day we brought Buddy home he was afraid of the hallway. Has always been since that first day. In this video I put some food and he would get so close but would cry but not eat it.
Actual picture of Buddy's first day home showing fear of hallway
Buddy hates water, he hates baths and is deathly afraid of being in the bathroom. This video shows how he trembles in there. He trembles the entire time getting a bath.
When out for walks if other dogs bark he freezes, then takes off running. Sometimes he just wants to run away, yet other times he runs towards the dog(s) first, then runs away.
--Same dogs, another day--
Though I don't have a video of it (but will soon), he cannot control his emotions/excitement around other dog and it turns into aggression. He can walk with the dog no problem, but soon as the walk is over he gets confused, doesn't know what to do and growls and wants to attack. It's the same story with just about every dog. When he sees dogs walking his ears purk up, posture changes, but he never growls or barks at a dog from afar.
